Is MISASA Membership Mandatory?

January 27th, 2010

Note from the Editor.

There is no requirement to be a member of the Aero Club / MISASA although there are significant benefits that accrure to those that do belong. It is possible that membership will become mandatory ito CAA requirements. RAASA currently do not issue ATF’s to pilots that are not members in cases where the AP that signed off the aircraft enjoys the benefit of an established collective insurance policy. Should a pilot wish to obtain an ATF without MISASA membership then they must obtain an AP from an independent AME.

Set out below is my understanding of the detail pertaining to this matter:

RAASA Requirements for an ATO to be an approved Examination centre under Part 62

March 26th, 2009

Hi All Recreational Aviators.

Please find attached the requirements to be approved as a RAASA examination centre.

There appears be some confusion as to these requirements. Please take special note of the last paragraph. Part 62 Examination areas are NOT required to have camera surveillance systems. As per our discussion at the Instructors seminar we believe that we can put our trust in our instructors. Should this be proven wrong them we will address and amend these requirements. If your school offers Part 61 training as well then their requirements will apply to those exams.I hope that this clears this issue up.

Andre Swanepoel writes a NTCA Brief on Current Matters

February 27th, 2009

Andre Swanepoel, of the CAA has undertaken to write us a regular column on NTCA matters. His advise and sober minded realism about matters that, at times, may be difficult to accept have a very positive side to them. It is better to know where you are than to find yourself swimming across the Indian Ocean. His first column is but a blend of  “good for you, milk and honey” so read on. Ed.
