Letter to our Chairman from the new Aero Club GM

January 22nd, 2010 by Editor Leave a reply »

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself since taking office as General Manager of AeCSA.

I believe I have rather large shoes to fill and a fairly steep learning curve in regards to current issues pertinent to each section.

We do have a good Exco team that bring years of expertise and experience especially with Jeff at the Helm

Naturally, I will only be as good as the information shared and the relationships we build together. I look forward to getting to know each and every one of you.

If I may, would it be possible (where pertinent) in a short return email to give me each of your contact details and at the same time, a brief overview in point form of issues that require AeCSA assistance that may be pending with a need to be investigated or concluded. Would you also furnish ( if possible) proposed meeting dates of your sections that (should I be invited) I can diarise. Should there be other important individuals that liaise directly with Aeroclub from your sections, would you also be so kind as to pass on their contact details and info on their respective portfolios.

There will need be a substantial handover period, along with some staff appointments in the next few weeks. Please bear with us over the next few weeks until we can get a efficient handle on what is required and where we need to develop.

May I also request from you, your sections and members when criticism is required ( as it must from time to time) can this be done in a productive, positive manner and from a solution offered base.
I personally appreciate a proposed solution offered to any challenge.

I would also like to make appointments with each of you in the Gauteng area to get a feel for each of your organisations/ sections – so I can get a better understanding of the challenges.
At present we have office space constraints which should be rectified in a few months after the office move and to this end would like to use this time to conduct these meetings.

Some of you have already invited myself to some of your meetings, which I intend to take you up on, in the near future.
I intend to have a busy schedule over the next few weeks, to meet with all major role players whom impact upon our recreational flying activities.

To be clear, my main objectives will be based on those taken from our “Memorandum of Association” and I urge each and every one of you to also keep this foremost in all our thinking and decision making.

These objectives are,
To popularise, co -ordinate, develop and administer sport aviation in South Africa throughout all the various disciplines practiced by member Associations
To encourage participation in all activities of the AeCSA of all South African residents irrespective of gender, race or religious denomination
To diligently strive for the safe practice of sport aviation in South Africa
To inform, through the publication of regular magazine and other information dissemination activities, the members of AeCSA and the general public of activities of the AeCSA and its member associations
To encourage participation in sport aviation at international level
To this end I trust we will build close working relationships, built on mutual earned respect and look forward to the challenges that lay before us all, as we enter this new era of AeCSA and the perseverance of sport aviation.

The minutes of the recent board meeting are nearly complete and will be furnished ASAP.
Here under are my contact details which I ask that you make note of.
Kind regards,

Kev Storie
